Jack (and Jill) of All Trades

A couple of weeks ago we spent the weekend working on a few random little projects that our insurance carrier was requiring us to fix. We had a few buckled shingles on the roof that needed to be nailed down and some of the wood around the outside of our garage doors was dry rotting and needed to be replaced. We took a break from tearing things up and Craig brushed up on his roofing and carpentry skills. Meanwhile, I learned how to hang insulation downstairs around the laundry room! It was actually pretty fun, although my hand was very sore from using the staple gun so much! It was nice for me to have a project other than just tearing up or cleaning up - I actually got to see progress as I went and knew that I was working towards putting things back together!

Craig started off by prying the old wood off the house.

Meanwhile, I measured and cut the insulation, and stapled it in between the studs.

Craig took a break and got up on the roof to staple down the shingles.

I handed him a broom to get all the sticks off the roof while he was up there!

Our chimney is covered in dead ivy, which is something we will have to deal with at some point. Craig pulled some of it off while he was up there, but we're going to have to get a big ladder up to the chimney itself.

Craig then went back to working on the garage, measuring out new boards and drilling them into place.

On another note, one of the houses next door to ours just went on the market! We haven't been inside, but from the pictures it looks pretty nice. We'd love to have some more young, fun neighbors on our street! ;)
